Graham Crofts - IT & Engineering

Senior Associate

Graham joined GJE in 2001 after working for several years in academic research, publishing widely in the field of photonics. He graduated with a first class Honours degree in Physics from Imperial College, University of London, remaining there to take a Masters degree in Applied Optics and a PhD in Laser Optics.

Graham qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2006 and is also a Chartered Patent Attorney, having been awarded the Drafting Prize for the highest mark in the UK Patent Finals drafting examination. He became a senior associate in 2008.

Graham works with a variety of UK and overseas clients, ranging from private inventors and start-up companies through to large multinational corporations. He deals with all aspects of patent-related work, including advising on the validity and infringement of patents, and has assisted several companies during due diligence exercises, but his core work is the drafting and prosecution of patent applications worldwide.

Graham deals with a wide range of subject matter from mechanical devices through to computer-implemented inventions and e-commerce. Examples include strapping machines, audio signal encoding, digital message monitoring and VoIP equipment, but his technical specialism remains photonics and allied fields, where he has clients developing LED devices for ecolighting and polarization control techniques for optical telecommunications.

Outside of work Graham enjoys walking, foreign travel, and entertaining his young daughter.
